SHMP : New Orleans
The Steve Harvey Mentoring Program for Young Men, New Orleans took place at The Ernest N. Morial Convention Center. All the boys who participated came from the New Orleans area and they were lead by group leaders from the FBI and DEA.

The first session of the day was the “You Can Be Me Panel Session”. The panelists for this session were Emil Hill (Weber Shandwick), Lamman Rucker (Actor) and SFC Enrico Leak (Drill Sergeant), the session was moderated by Roland Martin (CNN Journalist). During this session the New Orleans participants learned from a business professional, an entertainer and a drill sergeant about how they came into the positions they hold today. They learned from the panelists why they chose their careers and how being a responsible man affects their day-to-day lives in their chosen field. The participants had the opportunity for Q&A with the panelists at the end of the session.

The New Orleans mentees also experienced ‘The Scratch Academy’. Jam Master Jay founded Scratch DJ Academy as a place where anyone could learn about the DJ art form, its culture and history. The boys learned from music professionals why this art form is so important and they each got to take a spin on the turntables.

The culminating experience was ‘The Town Hall Meeting with Steve Harvey’. This session focused on how critical knowing the roles and responsibility of manhood is in the development of a young boy into a man. The participants learned first hand from this frank conversation with Mr. Harvey how to successfully navigate the road map to manhood.
